Max Agnew

Running for: General Representative

HI! I’m Max, I moved from regional South Australia to study at ANU, and I’m committed to being a strong voice for regional students while building a campus that is more sustainable, supportive, and student-focused. That’s why I’m running on three key policies. First, Bring Back Bubblers: students shouldn’t have to rely on expensive bottled water. By installing more accessible, bottle-friendly taps across campus, we can cut plastic waste, save money, and keep everyone hydrated. Second, More Bins on Campus: overflowing rubbish undermines our community and environment. I’ll push for more bins and better signage, making it easier to do the right thing and keep our spaces clean. Finally, Post-Exam Badger Snack Subsidy: exams are stressful, and students deserve the chance to celebrate their hard work with affordable snacks at Badger & Co. Together, these policies will make ANU cleaner, greener, and more enjoyable for all students.

Bring Back Bubblers on Campus

ANU preaches sustainability, yet they are forcing students into buying expensive single-use plastic water bottles when there is a simple solution, easily accessible bubbles across campus. When walking between classes, on an evening run or just enjoying the scenery of campus, students should have easy access to bubblers. Increasing the number of bubblers on campus will promote hydration, improve environmental sustainability and improve convenience for students.

Actionable Points:

Increase the number of drinking taps across the ANU campus to improve access to water, support environmental sustainability and enhance the convenience and health of students.

  • Create and distribute a university wide survey to allow students to nominate areas they would like to see bubblers added on campus.
  • Work collaboratively with the ANU and survey results to conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify high traffic areas, existing gaps, and the locations where additional drinking taps are most needed.
  • Ensure that the drinking taps are designed to be accessible to all users and include features such as bottle-filling stations and easy-to-use mechanisms.

Post-Exam Badger Snack Subsidy

In-person exams are one of the most stressful and most dreaded parts of the university experience. After weeks of study, or an all-nighter, students deserve a chance to unwind, reconnect and celebrate getting through it with their friends and classmates. An ANU students’ university experience should include moments of joy and reward amidst the pressure and deadlines. That is why an ANUSA post-exam Badger & Co Beverage subsidy is needed. The subsidy is about more than just a drink, rather a celebration of students achievements, encouraging you and your friends to re-connect socially after the depths of exam season.

Actionable Points:

  • ANUSA will partner with Badger to provide discounted drink specials during designated post-exam days
  • These subsidies will apply on key post exam celebration dates immediately after major in-person exam periods, with the period being after final exam periods in Semester 1 and Semester 2.

More Bins on Campus

Walking around campus, it’s clear that a lack of conveniently placed bins leads to rubbish piling up in common spaces, outdoor and indoor thoroughfares, and around study spaces. This doesn’t just harm the aesthetic of our campus, but also impacts sustainability and the wellbeing of students. A clean campus makes for a better student experience, while also reinforcing our values of respect and environmental responsibility. That is why an ANUSA-backed rollout of more bins around campus is needed. This initiative is about more than just waste disposal, it’s about improving the everyday environment students live and study in, while making it easier for everyone to do the right thing.

Actionable Points:

  • Create and distribute a university wide survey to allow students to nominate areas they would like to see bins added on campus
  • Work with the ANU to implement a new set of clearly marked landfill, recycling, and green waste bins will be installed in these key areas.
  • ANUSA will campaign for increased signage around bins to encourage proper waste sorting and reduce contamination.
